Through my creative work I strive to express my personal, ethical and spiritual feelings on the subject of nature. My paintings exist because of my fascination and reverence for the plant world.
During a substantial career as a landscape architect, I conceived and executed designs using plants and natural materials. Through the execution of painting, pottery and photography I translate the fascination I have for plants in ways beyond mere depiction. I use the power of art to make one see things in a new light. My art helps the viewer discover the beauty of plant forms and consequently be more appreciative of our natural world.
Nature gives its creations essential and efficient forms to assure their continued existence. I want to increase awareness that nature creates its own art, a functional art, based on survival. What the viewer learns about the botanical subject, however, may be less important than what I aim to reveal about paint, clay, or the process of discovery through my visual artwork.
